The latest development builds of PCSX2 now have a hack for rudimentary, hardware based mipmap support. This allows the textures in games like Ratchet and Clank to no longer appear corrupted.

For reference, this is what Ratchet and Clank look like with hardware mipmap support and without hardware mipmap support.

Edit: Here's what no mipmap support looks like in video. It's super broken.

Be warned that this is still being worked on, is very buggy, and may even crash the emulator, but as you can see in the above comparison shots, this early work it makes a massive difference.

Before this, you either dealt with the bugged textures in hardware mode or tried running the game in software mode (forcing you to play in a very low resolution), which requires an extremely high end CPU to be able to achieve full speed the entire time playing.

In order to enable this, download the latest development build from here, add UserHacks_mipmap=1 to your GSdx.ini file found in the inis folder, and then just start up the emulator. From that point on you'll have hardware mipmap support.

It's not something I've seen discuss often. It's something I'm interested in since I picked up Syndicate this week. I feel like the ability to rate each mission (when the ratings go straight to Ubisoft instead of being posted in some forum or internet poll) is actually a great idea, and I don't see why more developers try to utilize a similar method.

Ubisoft "receives a ton of information from ratings and the AC games."
